A New Coach

While Arlo may not be coaching for a few more years, we are always on the lookout for great coaches. In our quest we have been lucky enough to hosted some of the best, Kelly Starrett and Mike Burgener and Tony Blauer to name a few.

We would now like to introduce a new coach to CrossFit, Mark Bell. While Mark may be new to CrossFit, he is not new to powerlifting. He  certainly knows a thing or two about lifting heavy things. He can squat over 1000 pounds and can bench more than 800.   He owns the strongest gym in the west, Super Training Gym and runs the CrossFit Powerlifting courses on the west coast.  He is smart and funny which you can gleam from reading his blog.  We are lucky to get him to come down and share his expertise with us.  If you have any interest in understanding the what and how of lifting heavy, this clinic is for you.  Sign Up HERE.

Happily Overhead

Returning

Taking time off from your fitness program can be a hard thing to come back from, especially if it is CrossFit. It takes a lot of time and hard work to become proficient with the movements. It is difficult to build up the capacity to do the workouts at all let alone as prescribed. Ramping up for parts of the year and chasing a goal is terrific. Ratcheting back the intensity and volume and focusing on a weakness for a while can be very beneficial to your body and your mind. But taking a long break is hard to come back from. However, if for some reason you stray away, the workouts and movements and coaching staff are right there to help you get back to it when you are ready.

Each clinic will cost $20 and anyone wanting to participate must sign up in advance HERE. The clinic will be limited to 10 participants.

A proper warm up can make or break your workout. It is important to raise the body temperature and even to break a sweat. It is necessary to take your joints through full rage of motion and take your muscles to their end ranges. It is good to drill mechanics and think about strategy. CrossFit workouts are involved in their demand both physically an neurologically. Every part of you needs to be prepared.

11:00-12:15 Beginning handstands-- handstands against a wall, in free space, walking and some handstand push-upping-- a good place to get started with handstands-- no prior experience needed.  

12:30-1:45 All things handstand.  Ideally people in this group are comfortable kicking up to a handstand in free space already, and are fairly comfortable on their hands.  The second group would cover handstand walking, push-ups, parallette handstands, pirouetting, and more depending on the athletes.

Each clinic will cost $20 and anyone wanting to participate must sign up in advance HERE. The clinic will be limited to 10 participants.
