Today I was overcome with joy as I witnessed the 6 a.m. class applaud each other and cheer each other on during Tabata squats. I later watched my other classes complete the workout of the day as collective groups of people working hard individually. Each athlete pushed their limits, working hard to better themselves physically and mentally. I was reminded of all the things I love about CrossFit; the community, the camaraderie, the challenge, and the triumph.

This weekend our gym has earned the opportunity to participate in the fifth annual CrossFit games at the regional championship level. It is sure to be exiting and fun, and in the grand scheme of things not all that different than the hundred or so people who did Tabata Something Else today. We will be putting ourselves out there with a bunch of people who are also putting themselves out there trying to get more fit.

30 Wall ball shots, 20 pound ball
30 Burpees
60 Double unders

If you look closely you can see that the barbell has just left the ground in the photo. Notice Brian's back, particularly his low back, straight as an arrow. We never want to lift without a straight spine. It is both unproductive and unsafe.

Workout:

"Tabata Something Else"

Complete 32 intervals of 20 seconds of work followed by ten seconds of rest where the first 8 intervals are pull-ups, the second 8 are push-ups, the third 8 intervals are sit-ups, and finally, the last 8 intervals are squats. There is no rest between exercises.

This is going to be an exiting week around the gym. Twelve athletes are prepairing for the Nor Cal Regional June 3-5 at the Santa Clara fair grounds. All that is left to do is think positive thoughts, sleep well, stay hydrated and relax. We have done everything we need to do and now we go have some fun.

The first weekend of the 2011 CrossFit Games Regionals just concluded in Australia.  In the end it was none other than our very own Pat Barber who rose to the top. Pat laid out incredible performances one after another, winning 3 of the six events. We are all super proud of him and look forward to seeing him around the gym come late July.
